Is there a sure fire way that my question/answer won't "offend" another user...?

Be realistic about this, you have reached level 6 and are a top contributor so whether or not you offend someone is totally irrelevant, you are going to get reported anyway, there's nothing the trolls like more than getting the scalp of a Level 6 and a TC.
