What is an Institutional Privilege?

Institutional privilege describes the benefits of belonging to a group. There was an episode of the Simpsons in which Homer becomes a member of the Stonecutters. Once he has been accepted, he is given a ring that grants him excessive "institutional privileges" such as a front row parking space at work, a secret route on his commute and the "real number to 911."
