How can I get from the Mohawk River to the Intracoastal Waterway?

I'm considering buying a sailboat in Schenectady, NY and sailing from the Mohawk down the ICW when I finish school in a couple of months. As I understand, the ICW takes multiple routes. What is the best way to get there from here?
